Welcome to the new Bag Review!
What's new about Bag Review? In July of 2008 the Bag Review site got a new owner and editor. With this new owner came a new mission.
Our mission is to be the top site for people looking to select the right bag to carry a laptop, the items that you use with that laptop, and your other belongings. We want to help you buy that bag so that it fits your needs and your budget. If that bag breaks; we want to help you get it repaired or replaced. You might be a man or a woman. You might carry around a laptop for business, pleasure, or because you are hopelessly addicted to the Internet. You might live in New York, Austin, San Jose, London, or Hong Kong. You travel by car, or train, or airplane or even by foot.
In the past Bag Review has been researched and written by one person. You'll notice that in the new Bag Review there will be an editor and anywhere from four to eight reviewers. As editor I think you will be pleased with the backgrounds of the different reviewers. They come from different backgrounds and don‘t all have the same needs. These reviewers will all have one thing in common; they carry laptops around. Our goal is to cover more products from different manufacturers and make sure we maintain a consistent laptop user point of view.
The Bag Review Process
So which bags will we review? At Bag Review we will look at any bag that is manufactured and sold to carry a laptop. The plan we devised to help our readers is to give priority to bags that the average Bag Review reader can‘t go to a local store to see and touch. We‘ll also give priority to bag manufacturers whose products are consistently good and whose policies and product warranty are Bag Review reader friendly.
We are also going to review accessories and tools that will make carrying a laptop and your belongings around easier, lighter, safer, and more convenient.
How will we obtain these bags? Two ways. The new Bag Review team has already started going out and buying bags from different manufacturers. All were purchased via the Internet; some from the manufacturer direct and others through Web retailers like Amazon and eBags. Well also accept bags from manufacturers for review.
Once a review is posted we‘ll be looking for comments. We will select and post comments from our readers with priority given to those that own that bag or a similar bag from the same manufacturer. We will also post comments from the manufacturer.
Once we are done with the bag one of three things will happen. In some cases we will return the bag to the manufacturer. We will hold on to some bags letting either the original or another reviewer use them for an extended period of time. We plan on doing this in order to provide six month and one-year updates about how the bag held up.
What about the other bags? If you are like me you may attend a conference every year or so. One trend I noticed is that many conferences give out bags to hold all the material they distribute. If you are like me you may have a closet full of these bags. To remedy that we are starting a program called Bags in Need. Bags in Need will match up organizations that need bags with people that have bags to give. Rather than somebody paying the cost of shipping the bags; Bag Review will post requests from organizations that can use these bags along with their location and contact information. We will donate reviewed bags and hope that our readers will donate their excess bags to a local organization. After you donate drop us here at Bag Review an email. The reward? Besides the empty closet space and feeling of well being Bag Review will conduct periodic drawings and send accessories that we review to some lucky bag donator.
